Criteria for Participation in The Peer Buddy Study
To enroll a student with limited or no spoken language, they must meet the following criteria:
- Between the ages 3 - 6 years **
- Delays in social communication and limited interactions with peers
- Limited or no spoken communication - fewer than 20 spontaneous words
- Currently using or good candidate for a learning to use a speech-generating device
- Access to peers without disabilities
- English as the primary language spoken at home (can be by one parent)
To enroll a student to be a "buddy", they must meet the following criteria:
Between the ages 3 - 6 years **
Teachers recommend peers who meet characteristics related to listening, following directions, and age-appropriate social communication skills
**School administration approval is required
